The Builders Outreach Foundation, the charitable organization of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC), was formed in January of 1995 by the Builders Association as a way to promote homeownership through affordable housing and to contribute to the revitalization of our core cities. It is one of the Builders Outreach Foundation’s goals to provide an opportunity for home ownership to those whose financial condition puts them below the level of publicly subsidized affordable homes. Because the Builders Outreach Foundation is made up of the over 1,800 member companies of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities, they are in a unique position to tap the resources of the home building community. The foundation has also provided grants to the Greater Frogtown Community Development Corporation and Habitat for Humanity for other projects in the Frogtown neighborhood. In addition to the work in St. Paul, the Builders Outreach Foundation has constructed homes in Richfield and Wayzata. They have partnered with Minnesota Habitat For Humanity by sponsoring and participating in the construction of three homes in Burnsville, and providing matching funds for two additional homes. And they have just completed one of the homes in the Project for Pride in Living’s new affordable neighborhood in Minneapolis.
In 2007-2008 the Foundation took on a new challenge, Operation Dream Makeover. This project is completing a whole home makeover for an incredible young Marine wounded fighting in Iraq. The home will be open to the public during the Spring 2008 Parade of Homes Remodelers ShowcaseSM on March 28-30, 2008. With the motto “Making a difference… one home at a time” the Builders Outreach Foundation has made a difference to a number of families, neighborhoods and cities.
“My life dream has always been of owning my own home. Of having something my kids could hold on to, a future, a goal, security. These are the things most important to me and worth reaching out for. I am working at optimum level but unable to afford a new home without programs such as this. I would like to stay in the neighborhood because I can contribute to neighborhood revitalization. I know it is important to clearly understand the financial and maintenance responsibilities involved in owning a home. One way I’ve learned about home ownership is attending free home buying seminars. I’ve volunteered for Habitat [For Humanity] to help build homes for others. Thank you for this opportunity of a lifetime.”

Volunteers Are the Key
You can’t build a house without a hammer, wood, and nails. Likewise, you can’t rebuild a community without the combined skills of volunteers. The Builders Outreach Foundation relies entirely on the generous works of volunteers who are Builders Association members. In addition to volunteering many hours of labor, they donate various items to each project, including building materials and money. We raise funds in many ways including Parade of HomesSM Dream Homes and Dream Remodeled Homes where visitors to a handful of homes and remodeled homes during the Parade of HomesSM events are asked to help with a $5.00 donation. Equally important are the grants and donations we receive from non-members of the foundation.
